Folleto de Zaframagón

More

In the middle of the route of the Via Verde Natural Reserve is tucked away Rock of Zaframagón, in the foothills of the Sierra de Grazalema, where they contact the Subbetic Mountains and the countryside of Seville. The space is on the borderline between Olvera (Cadiz) and Coripe (Sevilla).

Despite its small size, the Rock is an enclave of great importance fauna especially the fact of hosting the largest nesting colony of griffon vultures (Gyps fulvus) in Western Andalusia and one of the largest in Europe. Its craggy prominently next to the fact that hitherto enjoyed a situation of great isolation from more populated areas, has become the ideal habitat for the installation of the nests of vultures, often built into the walls inaccessible, using the presence of cavities, ledges or overhangs. For the same reasons other species find refuge there, both birds and mammals.

The reserve is one of the few islands of native vegetation that dot this area and has some unique plant communities, mainly represented by two types of formations: the riparian vegetation accompanying watercourses (banks of Guadalporcún and Guadamanil) and the rupícola vegetation growing on the walls and most rugged areas of the rock.
